A multidisciplinary team led by the heads of the Gynecology services of the Hospital Clínic from Barcelona, Francisco Carmona, and from Urology and Renal Transplantation, Antonio Alcaraz, carried out a pioneering procedure involving the transplantation of a living donor uterus, a highly complex surgical process never before carried out in Spain.

The team of Drs. Francisco Carmona and Antonio Alcaraz, made up of more than 50 professionals, including specialists in gynecological and transplant surgery, anesthesia and nursing staff, successfully carried out the second uterus transplant in Spain at the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona.

Dr. Francisco Carmona, Scientific and Surgery Director of Gynecological Center Women's CD and Head of the Gynecology Service and Director of the Endometriosis Unit of the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona, referring to regional and state level in the treatment and investigation of this disease, is a specialist in Minimally invasive gynecological surgery and expert in benign gynecological pathology, endometriosis and pelvic floor disorders.
Professor of the University of Barcelona and member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia, is a member of medical societies such as the Spanish Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics (SEGO) and the Catalan Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics, and co-founder and current president of the Society for Endometriosis and Uterine Disorders (SEUD) and the Spanish Society for the Study of Myomas and Endometriosis (SEEME).
